Fantastico is an amazing tool that
can install scripts and software in seconds! Scripts are used to add
features to a website, and can encourage visitors to return to your
site. They can even get your visitors to write content for your website,
for example if you install a script to create a forum, visitors enter
their views and make comments on existing posts on a forum topic. You
could also install a script to create a website directory with built in
links manager.
If your web hosting package uses
the popular CPanel control panel, then you probably have Fantastico
already installed. Click on the Fantastico icon and you will see the
list of free scripts and software which you can install on your website
with Fantastico. These may include Blogs, Content Management,
Customer Relationship, Discussion Boards, E-Commerce, FAQ, Guestbooks,
Hosting Billing, Image Galleries, Mailing Lists, Polls and Surveys,
Project Management, SiteBuilders, Wiki.
Fantastico Instructions –
Important! If you have an available MySQL database, you can try out
one of the scripts. Then if you do not intend to make use of it, the
MySQL database can easily be deleted, so that you can try a different
one. When you are in Fantastico, click on the script you want to
download. This will open up a description of the script which explains
the key features. There will be a link to the homepage of the script
source. The script may be installed by visiting the home page, but it
will NOT be installed by Fantastico! Instead, you should look for the
“New Installation” Link and click that. Follow the simple on screen
instructions, and hey presto, the script is installed! You can then get
to work on customising the script to make it relevant to your website.
